The Motorola G9 has been finally launched in India on 24th August 2020. Motorola has added a fresh phone in its new budget series. The phone succeeds the Moto G8 which was launched earlier this year. A mid-range smartphone with downgraded premium features seems to be the ongoing trend this year among most competitive smartphone manufacturers. Moto has been plugging away in the budget phone trenches for some time now, offering decent specs with a raft of features for a low, low price.

The Motorola G9 comes with a waterdrop display notch, and a rather thick ‘chin’. The rest of its bezels are quite thin and all of its physical buttons are placed on the right. The phone measures 165.21 x 75.73 x 9.18mm, and it weighs 200 grams. All in all it looks like the other mid range phones offered by Realme and Xiaomi when it comes to design. The phone looks quite premium with its display and minimal bezels. The G9 also has a compact, rear mounted fingerprint scanner at the back. The Motorola Moto G9 supports face unlock as well.

The Motorola G9 features a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD Max Vision display. This is a 60Hz flat display. The back of the device is curved towards the sides and phone’s corners are rounded, and the same goes for its display corners. The display might not be that fast as the fresh 120Hz displays but they are quick enough. The runs Android 10.

The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 662 64-bit octa-core processor. The device includes 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of expandable storage (expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card). A hybrid dual SIM setup is also included. There are two nano SIM card slots included. The phone isn’t fast enough to support high speed

A 5,000mAh battery is also included in this package, along with Motorola’s 20W Turbopower charging. Bluetooth 5.0 is included, and the phone is splash resistant. A 48-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.7 is this phone’s main shooter. A 2-megapixel macro camera (f/2.4 aperture) is included on the back, with a 2-megapixel depth sensor. A single 8-megapixel camera is in the water drop notch at the front. The cameras aren’t very high performance when compared to better premium cameras but they are very efficient and create some interesting photographs.

Pricing and Availability

The Motorola G9 is available in Forest Green and Sapphire Blue colours. As of 25th August 2020, Motorola Moto G9 price in India starts at Rs. 11,499. For its price, the G9 exceeds expectations and the slight hike above the 10,000 marks can still be a major consideration for the under 10,000 range since a jump to 11,500 does not constitute a big difference. The phone comes packed with premium features with subtle compromises.
